The process of manufacturing labels.
In our article, What is a Labels Manufacturers, we briefly touched on what a label manufacturer does. In this article we have an in depth look at how the process of manufacturing labels actually works.
There are four stages in a traditional labels manufacturer process, these are:
1. Preparing label stock
Preparing the label stock involves deciding on what label material to use, either paper or film.  Types of Material a label manufacturer uses. A typical pressure sensitive label will be made up of the release liner (or backing paper) at the bottom, the adhesive, the facestock and the lamination on top.
2. Printing
The next step a label manufacturer goes through is printing, or laying down the ink or graphics of the label. In order for a label to print well, the images need to be high resolution Vector images.
3. Converting
Converting is the process used by the label manufacturer of cutting the label to shape to either a die cut label roll label, a butt cut roll label, sheeting or marginal punch labels
4. Finishing
Finishing of the label involves determining what the copy position or roll direction preference is. The roll direction can either be wound out or the roll direction can be wound in. Finishing also involves determining the label roll size. This will rely on the number of labels needed on one roll and is measured by the outside diameter of the label roll and the inside diameter of the label roll.
